I know you wrote this post awhile ago, but I was googling Tapestry of Grace and found your blog. I am very impressed with your structured plan. Now that the year is well on, I am wondering how things are working out now. I will have to read up on your more current posts :)

I have two sons and one on the way. The oldest of 5, and is actually in kindergarten at out public school this year. I made a last minute decisions to use the public school (for a few different reasons....) mainly because I got a little bit of cold feet once the school year started. Now that I have experienced public school and have found Tapestry of Grace, I am feeling pretty strongly about going in the homeschool direction. I am confident that your blog will prove to be a great support for me.

Hi Krista! It was so fun to read your comment about being recently exposed to all these great ideas and hobbies. I'm new to everything except the reformed theology (and I have so much to learn in that arena, that I might as well be new to that as well!)... and it's really neat to see so many other "thinking" Christian women out there... doing their own study of their precious faith and desiring to pass on these ideals to their little ones. So encouraging.

Sounds like we have kids the same ages. I would highly recommend the Writing Road to Reading, if you have the time to devote to studying (not just reading) the ENTIRE book. It's geared more for a classroom setup and less for a homeschool mom, but many use it with great results. Both Spell to Write and Read, and the Phonics Road are based on this Spalding (WRTR) method... they are just planned out a bit better for the homeschool teacher, in my opinion. I applaud you for being willing to teach with this method! I hadn't ever visited the site you mentioned until today... and it's full of information! Thanks for the tip!

If you need a kindergarten curricullum right away and you don't have time to devote to a lot of planning, Sonlight might be a good option for you. One of my dear friends uses it and LOVES it. Everything that you need for the ENTIRE year comes in the box. And every day is planned out for you. The main reason I didn't choose Sonlight for my family is that they do not follow history chronologically - they really skip around alot. For me, that's important, for others it would not be an issue at all. TOG is working great for us... we did it last year as well (for preschool!) and used it mainly as a book list reference and an activity source.

Well, this answer is getting far too long... but if you have any specific questions, feel free to e-mail me privately at dvre2@msn.com.

That looks like a fabulous plan!! I have to have a plan too, we thrive on structure and even though I don't always follow it, we're much better off than if I didn't have a plan to begin with. I love reading what other homeschoolers are using, there are so many good things out there to choose from. Best of luck in your kindergarten!

We almost picked the Botany... if it wasn't for the dinosaurs in "Land Animals," I think Botany would have won out! It fits nicely into the whole "nature study" idea too. Wendy, I didn't even know you had a blog until today... it's a beautfiul blog and your family is so cute! AND you are a real, honest to goodness, runner (not that I'm a runner or anything... but I have respect for runners. I can run about 5 houses down to the get the mail and then I run out of steam. :))
